How Started: Rtn. PDG Dr. R.D. Prabhu who was GGR, was assigned to start a new club, sponsored by R.C Shimoga. Our club was started with 20 members. They were called charter members. We were all new to each other. Provisional club was started first. After receiving the official charter from RI, charter day programme was arranged in a grand manner with a big gathering. Club charter was presented by the District Governor Chengappa.
Our Club Super Specialties: All members were dedicated to service. Service to humanity was our motto. Rotary’s mission was our mission. Rotary’s motto was out motto. All members used to take Rotary very seriously. Club followed Rotary rules and bylaws very strictly to the core. We used to attend all District events promptly with proper preparations. Weekly meeting time was followed very strictly. In the meetings food was arranged passionately in style. Fellowship arrangements was our specialty and was highly appreciated by all clubs. We gave utmost importance to membership growth. Quality of members was our great strength. Bonding and understanding between members was strong and unbreakable. Fellowship Tours are our speciality. Board meetings were held at attractive places in different locations. Club accounting and finance were of very high standards. Attendance in club was highest in the district. Most challenging service projects were picked up for public and completed on time with best effectiveness. Ladies in club were given utmost care and were involved in all club activities. Annes and Annets enjoyed club events beyond their expectations. Every President took their year as a challenge and saw that their year was a memorable one.
Permanent Project: Funding the service projects was a challenge. Members unanimously decided not to raise funds from public for our regular projects. We were thinking of a good permanent project, which is unique in nature, an impossible one by others, which is self-funding and self-sustaining in nature. Profit out of this project was decided to give back to public in some good manner. Thus we formed S.M.R.C.F Trust. We started Rotary Blood Bank Project. We wanted it to be unique and of international standards. We got ISO Certification for our blood bank and were named as ideal and one of the best Blood Bank in the state.
District Events / Awards: We were judged as best in all aspects of club, to name a few, which are attendance, fellowship, accounts, sports, cultural events, all avenues of service, permanent projects etc. Quality of activity and standard of service projects was highly appreciated by all. Our involvement in district administration was commendable. Our Club’s knowledge on Rotary bylaws and constitution was very high and was used by all seniors in Rotary. Our club was first to oppose any deviation of laws by district administration. We used to fight with all our energy to oppose and correct it. Our efforts were duly supported by other clubs in the interest of Rotary. We were the root cause of lot of improvement in district bylaws and District Governor election procedure.
Club Meeting Place: Our club meeting place is very unique in nature. No club in the district had their own big Rotary meeting hall, acoustically sound proof with central a/c. It is supported with roof top dining hall, two additional halls for club projects and two separate board room, one for club and other for the trust. This was possible by the contribution by individual club members.
Our Current Dream:
- To have another useful permanent project to address current needs of the public, which is self-funding and self-sustaining.
- To induct more dedicated quality members to the club who are committed to service.
- To promote members to take challenging service projects.
- To improve friendship and fellowship in the club through service activities.
We sincerely hope that new generation of members will be motivated by our 37 years of activities and accept the challenges for meaningful 50th year celebrations.
